2. Kumuous complaints having been made of the desecration of this ground notwithstanding the efforts of the Police proximate. His Excellency the Governor authorised the Estimate expenditure of £200 for its enclosure (Colonial Secretary's Letter No. 203 of 26 March 1859). I accordingly marked out the Ground, and made immediate arrangements for the prosecution of the work which, from the nature of the ground, I decided to execute as follows:

On the North and East a rough punched stone wall 6 feet high above ground and 1' 6" thick set in mortar, having a gateway 14 feet wide hung to tiers 2 feet square.

The B.L.S.&. Lines to be in rough undressed stone, pointed with mortar, of varying heights from 6 to 3 feet and from 3 to 2 feet, which coped with thorough stones set flush in mortar. A portion of the East side on top of a slope, the wall to be rough punched 3 feet high, which together with the first named wall will also have thorough coping.

The work being urgent, I agreed to pay for same at the regular market rates when complete.
